Hinduja Group announces Rs 2,500 crore investment commitment in Tamil Nadu

Hinduja Group announces Rs 2,500 crore investment commitment in Tamil Nadu

Hinduja Group announces Rs 2,500 crore investment commitment in Tamil Nadu

The Hinduja Group, the 111-year-old transnational conglomerate, has announced an investment commitment of Rs 2,500 crore in Tamil Nadu, with the proposed investments spanning renewable energy, electric mobility, automotive, financial services, energy, battery charging infrastructure and digital mobility solutions.

As part of the commitment, Amit Saharia, Group President – Strategy, Hinduja Group, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Deepak Jacob, IAS, MD & CEO, Guidance Industries, Investment Promotion and Commerce Department, Government of Tamil Nadu. The signing took place in the presence of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Thiru C. Joseph Vijay, Ashok Hinduja, Chairman, Hinduja Group of Companies (India), Selvi S. Keerthana, Minister for Industries, Investment Promotion and Commerce, Government of Tamil Nadu, Dr. S. Vijayakumar, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary to Government, Industries, Investment Promotion and Commerce Department, and other senior officials.

A significant part of the investment will be directed towards renewable energy. Hinduja Renewables Energy Pvt Ltd (HREPL) plans to develop more than 200 MW of renewable energy capacity across solar, wind and battery technologies. The Group will seek land and connectivity support in identified catchment areas, including Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, Virudhunagar, Madurai and Coimbatore, to support the development of these projects.

The Group is also strengthening its presence in Tamil Nadu’s emerging electric mobility ecosystem. OHM Global Mobility Limited will operationalise electric buses for public transport in the state while expanding its broader mobility solutions value chain. In addition, the Group intends to explore opportunities across automotive, financial services, energy, battery charging infrastructure and digital mobility solutions.

Commenting on the investment, Ashok Hinduja, Chairman, Hinduja Group of Companies (India), said, “Our Rs 2,500 crore commitment is a statement of our confidence in Tamil Nadu and our desire to participate in its next phase of growth. With its strong industrial base, talent and renewable energy potential, Tamil Nadu is well positioned to lead India’s energy and mobility transition. We look forward to building on our long-standing association with the state and working with the Government of Tamil Nadu to create lasting value through investments in clean energy, electric mobility and other emerging opportunities.”

The investment builds on the Hinduja Group’s established presence in Tamil Nadu through businesses including Ashok Leyland, Gulf Oil India, Hinduja Leyland Finance, Hinduja Housing Finance, Switch Mobility, Ohm Mobility, Gro Digital and Hinduja Tech, among others.

The latest commitment also follows the Rs 7,500 crore MoU signed by the Hinduja Group UK with the Government of Tamil Nadu in September 2025 to support investments in the state’s EV ecosystem, covering battery manufacturing, battery energy storage systems and charging infrastructure. Further strengthening this ecosystem, Ashok Leyland broke ground in March 2026 for a Rs 500 crore greenfield battery pack manufacturing facility at Pillaipakkam near Chennai.

With its industrial base, skilled workforce, manufacturing capabilities and entrepreneurial ecosystem, Tamil Nadu is emerging as a key destination for investments linked to India’s energy transition and new mobility landscape. The Hinduja Group’s latest commitment is expected to further expand its footprint in these sectors while contributing to the state’s sustainable industrial growth.
