Jindal Steel & Power (JSPL) has launched its first Continuous Galvanising Line (CGL 1) at the Angul Integrated Steel Complex in Odisha, reinforcing its foray into the coated steel market. This strategic move will support the company’s efforts to cater to growing demand across automotive, infrastructure, appliance, and construction sectors.
The newly commissioned CGL 1 facility will produce a versatile range of galvanised and galvalume steel products, marketed under the brands Jindal Panther Galvanised and ZINKALUME. These coated steel solutions are tailored for applications requiring corrosion resistance, thermal durability, and precision thickness—features increasingly sought after in modern engineering and manufacturing sectors.
CGL 1 has the capacity to handle steel thicknesses from 0.15 mm to 1.50 mm and widths between 700 mm and 1,400 mm, offering flexibility for diverse end uses. The Jindal Panther Galvanised series will include full hard, soft, and skin-passed grades, ideal for air conditioning units, ducting, silos, electrical enclosures, and as base material for pre-painted galvanised iron (PPGI).
The ZINKALUME range—aluminium, zinc, and silicon-coated steel—is engineered for longer life and heat resistance, targeting niche segments such as solar mounting structures, fuel storage tanks, and pre-painted galvalume (PPGL) applications.
Additionally, the new line is equipped to deliver thinner hot-rolled (HR) galvanised coils and high-strength steel suitable for automotive underbody parts, marking an important push into value-added flat products.
Looking ahead, Jindal Steel is progressing with its larger expansion plans, aiming to boost the Angul plant’s crude steel production capacity to 12 million ton per annum (MTPA) by the end of 2025, strengthening its position as a key player in India’s advanced steel manufacturing landscape.
