UltraTech Cement Ltd has deployed 45 electric heavy-duty trucks in partnership with Energy In Motion (EIM), marking a significant milestone in the decarbonisation of long-haul logistics in the Indian cement industry. The deployment will facilitate the transportation of clinker from the company’s Kotputli Cement Works in Rajasthan to its grinding units at Dadri Cement Works and Sikandarabad Cement Works in the Delhi-NCR region.
The fleet of 55-tonne electric trucks will operate across a 250-kilometre corridor spanning Rajasthan, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh. The initiative follows the signing of a transport service agreement between UltraTech, Energy In Motion and a logistics service provider. It is among the largest deployments of electric heavy-duty trucks in the cement sector in northern India and demonstrates the growing viability of zero-emission freight transportation for long-distance operations.
The newly deployed fleet is expected to reduce more than 8,900 tonnes of CO₂ emissions annually while replacing approximately 2.9 million litres of diesel consumption each year. The initiative aligns with the Government of India’s focus on accelerating electric mobility and promoting sustainable logistics across the commercial transportation sector.
Speaking on the development, K C Jhanwar, Managing Director, UltraTech Cement Ltd, said, “India’s ambition for clean, energy-secure transportation demands industry action, and UltraTech is committed to being at the forefront. This deployment reflects our belief that decarbonising logistics is as strategic as decarbonising production. By shifting long-haul clinker movement to electric, we are aligning with the country’s stated objective to reduce dependence on imported fossil fuels, while building a supply chain that is resilient, responsible, and future-ready.”
The deployment further expands UltraTech’s green logistics network, which now comprises more than 750 environmentally friendly trucks. As part of its phased transition to cleaner transportation, the company introduced CNG-powered trucks in 2021, LNG trucks in 2022 and electric trucks in 2024. As of FY26, UltraTech operates a fleet of 638 CNG trucks, 32 LNG trucks and 89 electric trucks across its manufacturing locations, reinforcing its long-term commitment to sustainable operations and lower-carbon supply chains.
