BEML Ltd has expanded its aerospace infrastructure with the commissioning of a new warehousing unit at the Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB) Aerospace Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Bengaluru. Spanning 0.12 acre, this facility has been developed to enhance integrated logistics and streamline supply chain operations within the aerospace domain.
The facility marks the first phase of a larger infrastructure development plan. Construction has also commenced for Phase II, which will cover an additional 1.15 acre and add approximately 50,000 sq ft of advanced infrastructure. BEML currently holds 25 acre within the Aerospace SEZ, positioning it for substantial future expansion aimed at supporting India’s growing defence and aviation ecosystem.
The company’s long-term vision includes the establishment of a full-fledged aerospace manufacturing and logistics hub within the SEZ. Future development plans involve production of aerostructures, drones, and specialised components, along with maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) capabilities to meet global standards.
Strategically located near Kempegowda International Airport and key road networks, the SEZ offers strong connectivity for logistics and exports. As part of its operational model, BEML has entered into a service agreement with LOM Supply Chain India Pvt Ltd to manage warehousing functions within the SEZ. This collaboration is expected to enhance efficiency while also offering services to other OEMs, Tier-1, and Tier-2 suppliers operating in the sector.
The ongoing development aligns with BEML’s objective to become a significant contributor to India’s aerospace manufacturing and export capacity. The initiative is expected to generate over 500 employment opportunities and play a role in promoting indigenous capabilities. Plans are also in place to set up a Centre of Excellence focused on aerospace technologies at the site, further underlining the company’s commitment to innovation and self-reliance in the sector.
