Shree Cement Ltd has successfully commissioned a 6.0 MWp solar power plant at its Roorkee unit in Uttarakhand. Strategically positioned adjacent to its existing cement operations, the new installation marks a substantial step in advancing the company’s renewable energy targets under its RE100 commitment and decarbonization roadmap.
With the commissioning of this project, the solar generation capacity at the Roorkee facility has surged sevenfold—from 1.0 MWp to 7.0 MWp—demonstrating the company’s focused approach toward clean energy integration. Shree Cement’s overall solar power capacity now stands at 293.5 MWp, underscoring its leadership in environmentally responsible manufacturing within the Indian cement industry.
“Sustainability is embedded in everything we do. The commissioning of the Roorkee solar plant is a testament to our commitment to reducing carbon emissions and building long-term energy resilience. Projects like this not only benefit the environment but also create local jobs and contribute to inclusive economic growth,” said Neeraj Akhoury, Managing Director, Shree Cement.
Developed with an estimated investment of Rs 16 crore, the solar power plant is expected to significantly reduce dependence on conventional grid power while offsetting approximately 6,500 metric ton of CO₂ emissions annually. The project is poised to contribute positively to India’s broader climate goals and promote energy self-reliance.
This achievement aligns with Shree Cement’s long-term vision of operational sustainability and reinforces its commitment to forging a greener and more resilient industrial future.
