ONGC Appoints Om Prakash Sinha as Director (Exploration)

Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (ONGC) has named Om Prakash Sinha as its new Director (Exploration). The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has approved the appointment, which will remain valid until his superannuation in December 2027 or until further notice.

With more than 37 years of experience at ONGC, Sinha brings extensive knowledge and leadership in exploration and production operations. He is an alumnus of the Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad, with a degree in Petroleum Engineering, and has served the company across various domains including field development, reservoir management, and seismic studies.

Throughout his career, he has played a key role in refining ONGC’s reservoir engineering strategies. His contributions include designing and implementing Improved Oil Recovery (IOR) and Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) techniques across both onshore and offshore projects.

He previously headed ONGC’s Institute of Reservoir Studies in Ahmedabad, where he was instrumental in developing programmes to improve production performance. Additionally, he has led initiatives aligned with India’s energy transition, particularly in conceptualising projects involving Carbon Capture, Utilisation, and Storage (CCUS/CCS), aimed at supporting ONGC’s Net-Zero ambitions.

Sinha is also actively involved in industry associations, including the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) and the Society of Petroleum Geophysicists (SPG). ONGC has confirmed that his appointment comes without any conflict of interest or disqualifications.
