Plans to enhance connectivity between Bhavnagar and the rapidly growing Dholera Special Investment Region (SIR) have gained momentum with the Union Government giving the nod for a new broad-gauge railway line. The project will span nearly 65 km, and the groundwork for the final location survey is set to commence shortly.
The upcoming line is designed to boost trade and industrial growth in the region, linking Bhavnagar directly to Dholera SIR and extending connectivity to the proposed container terminal at Bhavnagar Port. At present, railway access is available only up to the existing port facilities, but the new alignment is expected to strengthen logistics efficiency for imports and exports handled by industries in and around Dholera.
The initiative comes as part of a broader vision to develop Bhavnagar Port into a multi-purpose hub. With Dholera SIR emerging as a strategic industrial and investment zone, rail infrastructure is seen as a crucial enabler for seamless cargo movement.
Support from key political representatives of the region has played a pivotal role in advancing the project, which has now secured the Union Railway Ministry’s approval to move ahead with surveys and planning.
