The Solar Energy Corporation of India Ltd (SECI), a central public sector enterprise under the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), has announced a key leadership change with the appointment of Akash Tripathi, IAS, as its new Managing Director.
Tripathi, a 1998-batch IAS officer of the Madhya Pradesh cadre, is currently serving as Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Power. He succeeds MNRE Secretary Santosh Kumar Sarangi, who was holding the additional charge of SECI after the exit of RP Gupta. With Sarangi continuing as Chairman, SECI now has a reinforced leadership structure combining institutional oversight with executive leadership.
Over the course of his career, Tripathi has held several important positions at the national and state levels. His tenure as MD & CEO of Digital India Corporation, CEO of India Semiconductor Mission, and CEO of MyGov.in has underscored his expertise in digital transformation and governance. In Madhya Pradesh, he worked extensively on e-governance, energy sector reforms, rural development, and technology-driven citizen services, building a reputation as an innovative and tech-savvy administrator.
Tripathi’s appointment is seen as a strategic step to strengthen SECI’s role in accelerating the country’s energy transition. His experience in both power sector policy and technology-led governance is expected to provide momentum to ongoing projects and help address emerging challenges in investment and execution.
With India targeting 500 GW of renewable capacity by 2030, the corporation SECI is playing a central role in scaling up initiatives in solar parks, hybrid power, offshore wind, energy storage, and green hydrogen.
