Ashok Leyland, the Indian flagship of the Hinduja Group, has announced the receipt of a significant order from the Tamil Nadu State Transport Undertakings (TNSTU) for the supply of 1,937 buses.
The order further strengthens the company’s long-standing association with TNSTU and underscores its leadership position in India’s bus manufacturing segment. With over 21,000 Ashok Leyland buses already operational in the TNSTU fleet, this development highlights the continued trust and confidence placed in the brand’s technology and product reliability.
The new fleet will comprise buses built with Ashok Leyland’s advanced iGen6 BS VI technology, designed to deliver superior passenger comfort, safety, and operational efficiency. The order includes a wide range of fully built and chassis configurations suited for town, mofussil, and SETC applications. Each unit will be manufactured on the AIS 153-compliant chassis platform, ensuring adherence to the latest Indian safety and performance standards while enhancing vehicle integrity and ride quality.

The newly introduced Viking and SETC models are engineered to offer enhanced performance, safety, and passenger comfort. All Town, Mofussil, and SETC variants will incorporate upgraded batteries and alternators compatible with Intelligent Transport Management Systems (ITMS). High-speed models will feature Electronic Stability Control for improved stability and safety, while the Urban Low Entry and Semi Low Floor variants (650mm) will provide superior ride comfort through automatic transmission, air suspension, and ergonomic interiors. Additionally, wheelchair ramps will ensure seamless accessibility for passengers with special needs.
