“Mahindra envisions dynamic growth for India’s construction equipment industry…”

Mahindra is preparing for a significant phase in its construction equipment journey, driven by new launches, improved fuel efficiency, and deeper localization efforts. In conversation with Construction Business Today, Dr Venkat Srinivas,  Executive Director & CEO – SML Mahindra Ltd, Business Head – Mahindra Trucks & Bus and Mahindra Construction Equipment, Mahindra Group reflects on industry trends and Mahindra’s evolving role in India’s infrastructure growth.

How do you see Mahindra Construction Equipment’s position evolving in today’s competitive equipment market?

Mahindra Construction Equipment continues to strengthen its market position by building on the trusted performance of our EarthMaster Backhoe Loader and RoadMaster Motor Grader series. With a focus on reliability, innovative technology, and fuel efficiency, Mahindra is well-recognized for delivering exceptional value and service coverage. Our expansive network of channel partners, ongoing investments in digital manufacturing, and a commitment to customer satisfaction ensure we remain at the forefront of India’s dynamic construction equipment sector.

EXCON 2025 is expected to be a major milestone for Mahindra with the unveiling of a new machine. Could you share what makes this launch significant and how it strengthens your current equipment portfolio?

The unveiling of our new equipment at EXCON 2025 is a landmark event for Mahindra. This addition brings next-generation fuel-efficient engines, integrated digital telematics (IMAXX), and advanced operator safety features—like ROPS/FOPS cabs—into our portfolio. It complements the proven EarthMaster and RoadMaster ranges, highlighting Mahindra’s continued leadership in sustainable, high-performance, and future-ready construction solutions.

How is Mahindra Construction Equipment aligning its design and manufacturing practices with sustainability goals—whether through energy-efficient engines, alternative fuels, or lower emissions?

Sustainability is a key driver behind our latest CEV V–compliant models, which leverage high-torque engines, DOC and DPF after-treatment systems, and multi-mode operation to reduce emissions and improve fuel consumption. We have implemented durable steel structures, optimized hydraulic systems, and localized component sourcing to minimize energy use and the environmental footprint across design and manufacturing stages. These steps reaffirm our commitment to responsible and technologically advanced product development.

Which sectors are driving the highest demand for Mahindra’s construction equipment today, and where do you see emerging opportunities?

Currently, significant demand for Mahindra machines stems from rural infrastructure initiatives, state highways, urban development, and the rapidly expanding rental segment. We see strong growth opportunities ahead in smart city projects, airport and logistics infrastructure, renewable energy installations, and green-oriented developments. Our adaptable, technology-rich equipment range is designed to serve large contractors as well as emerging infrastructure players.

Looking ahead, how does Mahindra envision the next phase of growth in India’s construction equipment landscape, and what role will innovation and localization play in that journey?

Looking forward, Mahindra envisions dynamic growth for India’s construction equipment industry powered by public investment, digitization, and widespread adoption of modern equipment. Innovation—in telematics, automation, and sustainability—will remain essential, while localization in R&D, component manufacturing, and customization for Indian conditions will enable rapid and responsive product development. Our mission is to deliver customer-centric, sustainable equipment that supports infrastructure transformation and economic progress nationwide.
