Balkrishna Industries Ltd (BKT) has released its sustainability report for FY 2024–25 titled ‘New Roads. Greener Future.’ The report outlines the company’s long-term vision of integrating sustainability with innovation, operational excellence, and responsible growth, while creating value for communities, stakeholders, and future generations.
The report highlights BKT’s continuous evolution over the decades, driven by the strengthening of technical and technological capabilities alongside sustained efforts to reduce the environmental footprint of its manufacturing operations. It also underscores the company’s focus on maintaining a safe and healthy working environment that meets the highest occupational health and safety standards.
During FY 2024–25, BKT reported measurable progress in reducing environmental impact while enhancing operational resilience. Research, design, and development activities were guided by a strategy that aligns technology with sustainability to deliver safer, more efficient products. The company further advanced circular manufacturing practices through increased use of recycled and recovered materials, including reclaimed rubber, crumb powder, and carbon black, improving both process efficiency and cost optimisation.
Key sustainability achievements during the year include the use of over 106,000 Mt of renewable materials in primary product manufacturing. Waste management remained a strong focus, with 98.17 per cent of waste recycled or reused and a 14.92 per cent reduction in total waste generation. BKT also achieved an 11.39 per cent annual reduction in groundwater withdrawal in water-stressed areas and a 2.03 per cent year-on-year reduction in water intensity per Mt of production. Energy initiatives resulted in a 21.37 per cent increase in renewable energy consumption, alongside a reduction in non-renewable energy intensity. The company planted 35,701 trees covering more than 19,000 square metres and delivered over 5,08,743 hours of training to employees and workers, reinforcing a culture of continuous learning.
With a proactive approach to environmental compliance and a strong alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), BKT continues to position itself as a sustainability-focused organisation within the global tyre industry.
