A large-scale renewable energy initiative is set to transform the energy landscape of Andhra Pradesh’s Rayalaseema region, as the Reliance Group advances plans to establish a 5,000 MW solar power project spread across multiple mandals. The ambitious development will be executed over nearly 95,000 acres covering Amadagur, OD Cheruvu and Nalladistrict, positioning the region as a major clean energy hub.
The first phase of the project will be implemented in Amadagur mandal, where approximately 25,000 acres have been earmarked for solar installations. Subsequent phases are expected to extend operations to an additional 70,000 acres in OD Cheruvu and Nalladistrict, significantly expanding the renewable energy footprint in the region.
The initiative is projected to generate substantial socio-economic benefits. Around 4,500 direct employment opportunities are anticipated during various stages of execution and operations, in addition to creating indirect livelihood prospects for local communities through ancillary services, logistics and maintenance activities.
To facilitate land aggregation, the company is preparing to enter into long-term agreements with farmers under a structured compensation model. Landowners are proposed to receive Rs 30,000 per acre annually, with a provision for a 5 per cent escalation every two years over a 30-year tenure. The arrangement will be implemented based on farmers’ consent, ensuring a participatory approach to project development.
Rayalaseema’s favourable climatic conditions, marked by high solar irradiation levels and wind potential, have increasingly drawn investments in renewable energy infrastructure. The proposed project further reinforces the region’s growing prominence in India’s clean energy transition and underlines the expanding role of private sector participation in large-scale sustainable power generation.
