Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has announced that railway infrastructure projects worth over Rs 90,000 crore are currently under execution in Odisha, signalling one of the most significant phases of rail network expansion in the state’s history.
Speaking during the groundbreaking ceremony of India’s first advanced 3D glass semiconductor packaging unit in Bhubaneswar, the minister highlighted the Centre’s focused push towards enhancing connectivity, capacity, and modernisation of railway infrastructure across the region.
Vaishnaw emphasised that the scale of ongoing investments reflects a strong commitment to strengthening both passenger and freight networks, positioning Odisha as a critical node in India’s evolving logistics and transportation landscape.
During his visit, the minister reviewed progress at the redevelopment of Bhubaneswar Railway Station, stressing timely execution and quality standards. The upgraded station is expected to offer enhanced passenger experience with modern amenities, aligning with Indian Railways’ broader vision of transforming stations into world-class transit hubs.
Odisha has also received a record railway budget allocation of Rs 10,928 crore, significantly higher than previous years, aimed at accelerating project execution. As part of the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, 59 railway stations across the state are being redeveloped to improve passenger facilities and infrastructure standards.
In a major connectivity push, the minister stated that all 30 districts of Odisha are being brought under the rail network through targeted interventions, ensuring inclusive regional development and improved access to remote areas.
Among the key infrastructure initiatives is the proposed four-line coastal rail corridor connecting Balasore to Berhampur. This project is expected to significantly ease congestion along the busy Howrah–Chennai route, while enhancing freight efficiency and regional mobility.
Vaishnaw noted that these initiatives will not only decongest existing corridors but also stimulate economic growth by improving logistics efficiency and connectivity. With sustained investment and policy support, Odisha is poised to emerge as a major beneficiary of India’s expanding railway infrastructure ecosystem.
