Maharashtra backs Rs 6,000 crore loan for Purandar international airport project

The Government of Maharashtra has approved a state guarantee to enable the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation to raise a loan of Rs 6,000 crore for land acquisition related to the proposed Chhatrapati Sambhaji Raje International Airport at Purandar in Pune district.

The guarantee, valid for a period of one year, is intended to facilitate timely mobilisation and utilisation of funds towards acquiring approximately 3,000 acres of land and compensating affected landowners. A formal government resolution has been issued to implement the decision, following earlier approval of the borrowing plan.

Positioned as a major greenfield infrastructure project, the airport is expected to strengthen regional connectivity and support long-term economic development in the Pune region. To oversee execution, a special purpose vehicle (SPV) will be established, bringing together key agencies such as the Maharashtra Airport Development Company, City and Industrial Development Corporation, and Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority.

The initiative reflects the state’s continued focus on accelerating critical infrastructure projects through structured financing mechanisms and inter-agency collaboration.
