PM Narendra Modi inaugurates Ganga Expressway to strengthen Uttar Pradesh connectivity

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has inaugurated the Ganga Expressway, a major greenfield infrastructure development positioned to enhance connectivity and economic activity across Uttar Pradesh. The project, built at an estimated cost of Rs 36,230 crore, marks a significant addition to the state’s expanding high-speed road network.

Stretching approximately 594 km, the six-lane, access-controlled corridor—designed for future expansion to eight lanes—connects Meerut in the western region with Prayagraj in the east. The expressway is expected to substantially cut travel time between the two cities to nearly six hours, improving both passenger mobility and freight movement efficiency.

The route traverses 12 districts, including Bulandshahr, Hapur, Amroha, Sambhal, Badaun, Shahjahanpur, Hardoi, Unnao, Raebareli and Pratapgarh, thereby strengthening intra-state connectivity. Among its key features is a 3.5-km emergency airstrip in Shahjahanpur, developed to support both civilian and defence operations.

In addition to transport benefits, the project incorporates plans for manufacturing and logistics zones spread across more than 2,600 hectare. These hubs are expected to reduce logistics costs, improve supply chain efficiency and attract industrial investments. Enhanced road access is also anticipated to support agricultural supply chains by enabling faster movement of produce to urban centres and export markets.

The expressway is designed to integrate with other major corridors such as the Agra-Lucknow, Jewar Link and Farrukhabad Link expressways, contributing to the creation of a comprehensive, high-capacity transport grid across the state. The development is projected to support long-term economic growth, while also generating employment opportunities and boosting tourism across key regions of Uttar Pradesh.
