NLC India and NCRTC form joint venture for solar power development

NLC India Renewables Ltd, the wholly-owned renewable energy arm of NLC India, has entered into a strategic partnership with the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) for the development of grid-connected solar photovoltaic projects aimed at supporting sustainable transport infrastructure.

The newly established joint venture company, NIRL NCRTC Renewables, has been formally incorporated following approval from the Ministry of Corporate Affairs. Under the agreed ownership structure, NLC India Renewables will hold a 74 per cent stake, while NCRTC will retain the remaining 26 per cent equity.

The collaboration marks a significant step towards integrating clean energy solutions into India’s expanding regional transit ecosystem. The proposed solar projects are expected to cater to the energy requirements of rail-based mobility systems while supporting the country’s broader transition toward low-carbon infrastructure.

NCRTC, which is implementing the Namo Bharat regional rapid transit network across the National Capital Region, is focusing on sustainable and energy-efficient transportation systems. The partnership with NLC India Renewables is expected to strengthen these efforts through the adoption of renewable power for transit operations and associated infrastructure.

For NLC India, the venture aligns with its ongoing expansion in the renewable energy sector, particularly in solar and green power generation. The company has been actively increasing its clean energy portfolio as part of its long-term diversification strategy.

The joint venture is expected to contribute to reduced carbon emissions across large-scale mobility networks while accelerating the use of renewable energy in urban and regional transport infrastructure. The initiative also reflects the growing emphasis on environmentally responsible development within India’s public transportation sector.
