SECL partners with CWC to strengthen coal transportation network

South Eastern Coalfields Ltd (SECL) has entered into a strategic partnership with Central Warehousing Corporation (CWC) to improve coal transportation infrastructure and streamline logistics operations across the country. The collaboration is aimed at enhancing railway rake availability, multimodal connectivity, and integrated transportation services to support efficient coal movement.

The agreement supports the Ministry of Coal’s broader objective of reinforcing India’s energy security through stronger evacuation and supply-chain systems. As part of the collaboration, both organisations will jointly work on the deployment and operation of GPWIS and equivalent railway rakes, along with integrated coal logistics solutions designed to improve operational efficiency.

The partnership will also focus on strengthening first-mile and last-mile connectivity while introducing digital monitoring systems for better logistics management and tracking. By leveraging combined expertise in warehousing, rail logistics, and transportation infrastructure, the initiative is expected to reduce dispatch-related constraints and improve coal delivery performance.

The memorandum of understanding was formalised in the presence of Harish Duhan and Santosh Sinha. SECL, one of the major coal-producing subsidiaries of Coal India, has been actively pursuing initiatives to modernise dispatch operations and ensure uninterrupted fuel supply to key sectors including power generation, steel manufacturing, and cement production.
