BHEL, thyssenkrupp nucera join hands to advance green hydrogen manufacturing in India

In a significant move to strengthen India’s green hydrogen value chain, Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd and thyssenkrupp nucera have entered into a strategic collaboration to manufacture alkaline water electrolyzers for green hydrogen projects in the country.

The agreement aims to enhance domestic manufacturing capabilities for clean energy technologies through the phased localization of alkaline electrolyzer module production. By combining their respective strengths, the two companies intend to support the growing demand for indigenous electrolyzer solutions and contribute to India’s clean energy transition.

As part of the collaboration, the partners will work together to establish local fabrication capabilities, participate jointly in project tenders, and facilitate the execution of green hydrogen projects across India. The initiative is expected to promote the development of a stronger domestic supply chain while reducing dependence on imported technologies.

The collaboration brings together BHEL’s extensive engineering expertise, large-scale manufacturing infrastructure, and network of specialised facilities with thyssenkrupp nucera’s advanced alkaline electrolyzer technology and global experience in hydrogen solutions. The combined capabilities are expected to accelerate the deployment of efficient and locally manufactured electrolyzer systems, supporting India’s ambitions to expand green hydrogen production and build a sustainable energy ecosystem.
