Volvo Buses India has broadened its premium intercity coach portfolio with the introduction of an integrated seater-sleeper version of the Volvo 9600. Developed under VECV, the new configuration is designed to address the evolving transportation needs of long-distance intercity, tourism, and pilgrimage operators, offering greater flexibility for fleet deployment across diverse routes.
Built on a 15-metre multi-axle platform, the coach is powered by Volvo’s VEDX8 diesel engine coupled with the I-Shift automated transmission. The interior has been configured to accommodate 51 passengers through a combination of 27 premium reclining seats, 24 upper sleeper berths, and three rear lower berths. The lower-deck seats feature calf support for enhanced comfort, while the underfloor compartment offers 6 cubic metres of luggage space to handle higher baggage volumes on extended journeys.
To improve passenger convenience during long-haul travel, the coach incorporates an onboard kitchenette and a fully enclosed restroom. The cabin has also been upgraded with mood lighting, privacy partitions, individual charging points, and integrated entertainment provisions aimed at enhancing the overall travel experience.
The new model brings several advanced driver assistance and safety technologies to the commercial coach segment. Conventional exterior mirrors have been replaced by camera monitor systems that improve visibility in challenging weather and lighting conditions. Other safety features include a 360-degree camera system, tyre pressure monitoring, driver fatigue and distraction detection, and an alcohol interlock system that prevents vehicle operation if intoxication is detected.
Supporting fleet operators, the coach is equipped with a connected telematics platform that enables real-time monitoring of vehicle location, speed, fuel efficiency, and diagnostic information. The digital solution is intended to improve fleet management, operational efficiency, and preventive maintenance for commercial transport operators.
