The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has initiated plans to develop a six-lane elevated corridor between Lal Kuan and Dadri in Uttar Pradesh, aiming to ease congestion along one of the busiest sections of GT Road. The proposed 12-km project is expected to significantly improve traffic flow for both passenger and freight vehicles while strengthening regional connectivity.
The elevated road will originate near the junction of the Delhi–Meerut Expressway and NH-9 at Lal Kuan, providing an alternative route to the existing four-lane corridor that links Ghaziabad, Noida and Aligarh. The project is also expected to enhance access to the upcoming Noida International Airport through the Eastern Peripheral Expressway, reducing travel time and improving logistics efficiency.
As part of the project development process, NHAI has begun preparing a feasibility study, which will form the basis for the subsequent detailed project report (DPR). The estimated investment for the corridor stands at around Rs 2,000 crore.
The proposed infrastructure upgrade comes in response to increasing traffic volumes on the existing route, which currently carries nearly 35,000 passenger car units (PCUs) every day and experiences frequent bottlenecks. The elevated corridor is being positioned as a long-term solution after previous efforts to widen the Lal Kuan–Aligarh highway encountered delays due to land acquisition constraints.
