BEML Ltd has unveiled the BH60-EV, India’s first indigenously designed and developed 60-ton electric dump truck, at its Mysuru Complex, strengthening the company’s focus on electric mobility for mining and infrastructure applications.
The next-generation electric dump truck was virtually launched by Shantanu Roy, CMD, BEML Ltd, in the presence of Functional Directors, senior officers and employees. Developed at BEML’s Mysuru Complex, the BH60-EV represents the company’s move towards high-capacity electric equipment designed specifically for demanding heavy-duty applications.
The vehicle combines a high payload capacity with an advanced electric powertrain and operator-focused engineering. It produces zero tailpipe emissions during operation and is intended to support mining and infrastructure operations while reducing dependence on conventional diesel-powered equipment.
Shantanu Roy, CMD, BEML Ltd, said: “The BH60-EV marks a significant milestone in BEML’s journey towards next-generation electric mobility for heavy industry. It demonstrates our capability to develop high-capacity electric equipment tailored to the demanding requirements of mining and infrastructure. With indigenous engineering, advanced battery technology and a strong focus on performance, safety and sustainability, we are creating solutions that can support both industrial productivity and the transition towards a cleaner future.”
At the heart of the BH60-EV is a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM), paired with a rugged gearbox and a 1,000 kWh high-voltage lithium-ion battery pack. The electric powertrain is designed to provide high tractive effort and instant torque, supporting operations on gradients and other challenging terrains.
The truck has a payload capacity of 54,500 kg with a rock body and a volumetric body capacity of 36.4 cubic m. Its electric platform is also designed to deliver improved energy efficiency, strong acceleration, high power-to-weight ratio and enhanced gradeability.
BEML has also developed a complete charging station solution for the electric dump truck. The charging infrastructure is designed to integrate with site electrical systems and can be scaled to support fleet operations, providing customers with an integrated approach to deploying electric heavy-duty equipment.
According to BEML, the BH60-EV is designed to achieve 40–60 per cent lower operating costs compared with conventional diesel-powered equipment. The vehicle can also enable an estimated reduction of around 130 ton of CO₂ emissions annually per vehicle, depending on operating conditions.
Safety and operator comfort have also been incorporated into the vehicle’s design. The cabin features an ergonomic layout along with a Roll-Over Protective Structure (ROPS), emergency steering and sealed oil-cooled disc brakes, aimed at supporting safe and reliable operation in demanding working environments.
With the BH60-EV, BEML is expanding its indigenous product development capabilities into high-capacity electric mining equipment, combining electrification, battery technology and heavy-duty engineering for the evolving requirements of the mining and infrastructure sectors.
