Jaya Varma Sinha becomes first ever female Chairman Railway Board

The Central Government appointed Jaya Varma Sinha as the first ever woman Chairperson and CEO of the Railway Board, the apex decision-making body of the Indian Railways. Sinha’s appointment signifies a pivotal juncture in the 166-year history of the Indian Railways, as he takes on the mantle of CEO, becoming the first woman to hold this esteemed position. She has succeded Anil Kumar Lahoti. She is due for retirement Sinha’s tenure as Railway Board head is slated to end on December 31st, 2024 but on 1st October  she will be re-appointed the same day till her tenure as Railway Board Chairperson gets over, as per reports.

An alumnus of the Allahabad University, Sinha joined the Indian Railway Traffic Service in 1988 and worked in Northern Railway, South Eastern Railway and Eastern Railway. Jaya Verma Sinha, an alumnus of Allahabad University, joined the Indian Railway Traffic Service (IRTS) in 1988. She is currently serving as a member of operations and business development, railway board, under the railway ministry. Sinha is responsible for the overall transportation of freight and passenger services on Indian Railways.
