In a significant development at Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL), Bani Varma has assumed the role of Director for Industrial Systems & Products within the esteemed Public Sector Engineering and Manufacturing Enterprise.
With a distinguished career spanning over three decades, Bani Varma began her journey as an engineer trainee in BHEL’s Industry Sector vertical in 1990. Her extensive and diverse experience in the energy, industry, and transportation sectors has equipped her with a comprehensive skill set in strategic management, business development, project execution, change management, and human resource management.
Prior to her new appointment, Varma spearheaded BHEL’s Transportation Business segment, and she played a pivotal role in diversifying the company into the rail transportation business. Under her leadership, BHEL secured the prestigious Vande Bharat trains manufacturing cum maintenance order, marking a significant milestone for the company. Additionally, as the head of BHEL’s Electronics Division (EDN) manufacturing unit in Bengaluru, she successfully led the unit to profitability after it faced sustained losses while overseeing the engineering and production of BHEL’s power and defense-related control equipment and propulsion electrics for Indian Railways.
Throughout her career,Varma has held various key positions within BHEL, including Corporate Strategic Management, Project Management, Marketing of Industrial Products (Electrical), and Captive Power Plants. She has been instrumental in supporting the organization’s strategic initiatives and achieving operational targets by collaborating with various stakeholders of BHEL. Her contributions have also been vital in formulating and implementing the development plan for BHEL’s new growth areas and driving transformation initiatives across functions and verticals.
