BEML Ltd has secured a contract valued at approximately Rs 590 crore from the Ministry of Defence for the supply of trawl assemblies to be deployed on the Indian Army’s T-72 and T-90 main battle tanks. The development reinforces the company’s growing role in India’s indigenous defence manufacturing landscape.
The agreement, formalised in New Delhi, involves the delivery of advanced, tank-mounted mine-clearing systems designed to enhance battlefield mobility. Developed in collaboration with Defence Research and Development Organisation (R&DE, Pune), these systems integrate multi-layered mechanisms to neutralise landmines and create secure pathways for armoured formations operating in hostile terrains.
The contract aligns with the Government of India’s Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative by reducing reliance on imported defence equipment and strengthening domestic production capabilities. The deployment of these systems is expected to significantly improve the survivability and operational effectiveness of mechanised forces in mine-affected zones.
The order forms part of BEML’s regular business operations and adds to its expanding defence portfolio. It also follows an earlier contract secured in December 2024, valued at around Rs 110 crore, for the supply of engines, further consolidating the company’s engagement with the defence sector.
Operating across defence, railways, mining, and construction equipment segments, BEML continues to play a strategic role in supporting India’s infrastructure and defence requirements, with a growing emphasis on indigenisation and advanced engineering solutions.
