Infrastructure and connectivity projects linked to the upcoming Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport at Bhogapuram are being fast-tracked ahead of the airport’s anticipated inauguration in early July. Authorities have intensified efforts to ensure seamless access to the new aviation hub, which is expected to play a transformative role in strengthening regional connectivity and economic growth in north Andhra Pradesh.
A comprehensive review of airport-related infrastructure works was recently conducted at the district level, covering road connectivity, land pooling initiatives, and layout development activities being executed by the Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority (VMRDA). The focus remains on completing all critical access infrastructure before the airport becomes operational.
Officials from various departments have been tasked with expediting construction of seven major roads connecting Visakhapatnam city and surrounding regions to the airport. In addition to roadworks, emphasis has been placed on the installation of street lighting, directional signboards, and other essential public infrastructure to facilitate smooth passenger movement.
Plans are also underway to strengthen last-mile connectivity through the development of a dedicated bus terminal and electric vehicle charging infrastructure near the airport premises. Authorities are exploring coordination with app-based mobility service providers to improve transportation accessibility for passengers and visitors.
The upcoming airport is expected to significantly enhance domestic and international air connectivity for the region while supporting tourism, trade, logistics, and industrial expansion. With infrastructure activities progressing on multiple fronts, regular review meetings are being conducted to monitor execution timelines and address pending issues before the airport’s commissioning.
