The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) is taking all needed efforts to complete the work on strategic Atal Tunnel under the Rohtang Pass in the Pir Panjal ranges of Himachal Pradesh. The BRO aims to complete the project, which is at the crucial stage of construction, by September 2020 despite the lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak. Installation of electro-mechanic fittings, lighting, ventilation and intelligent traffic control systems are being executed along with road surface works.
Atal Tunnel’s construction work is being executed with all necessary COVID-19 precautions in place to ensure its completion in September 2020 as planned. Offering the security forces a major strategic advantage, the tunnel will connect Manali to Lahaul Valley throughout the year and will reduce the road length of Manali-Rohtang-Sarchu-Leh road by 46 km.
