DPA, ICCT join forces to drive green transition at Kandla Port

In a move aimed at accelerating low-carbon port operations, Deendayal Port Authority has partnered with International Council on Clean Transportation to chart a structured pathway for reducing emissions across Kandla’s maritime ecosystem.

The collaboration will focus on preparing a data-led decarbonisation roadmap by assessing key emission sources such as ocean-going vessels, cargo handling systems, and port-linked transport networks. The exercise will include emissions mapping, baseline evaluations, and scenario-based modelling to identify targeted interventions capable of delivering measurable reductions within defined timelines.

Leveraging its global expertise, ICCT will support the port authority in examining advanced solutions including shore power systems, electrification of equipment, and adoption of alternative fuels such as green hydrogen. The initiative will also explore logistics optimisation strategies to curb fuel consumption and associated emissions from hinterland connectivity.

Beyond technology adoption, the partnership will address regulatory alignment, infrastructure preparedness, and financing mechanisms required to enable large-scale implementation. It will further include stakeholder engagement, technical workshops, and capacity-building efforts to ensure wider industry participation.

Positioned as a pilot for replication, the initiative is expected to establish a scalable framework for sustainable port operations in India, reinforcing Kandla’s role in the country’s broader push towards cleaner and more efficient maritime infrastructure.
