Jindal Stainless supplies stainless steel for India’s first Regional Rapid Transit System

Jindal Stainless makes history with India's first RRTS trainsets, using top-tier stainless steel for safer, faster, and greener travel.

In an exciting milestone for the Indian railway industry, Jindal Stainless has played a pivotal role in the launch of India’s first semi high-speed regional trainsets – the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS. These cutting-edge trainsets, inaugurated by Prime Minister Modi, promise to revolutionize the commute between Delhi and Meerut, reducing travel time by a staggering 40 per cent.

Jindal Stainless has supplied approximately 600 metric ton of top-tier 301LN stainless steel grade to Alstom, the company responsible for developing the advanced trainsets. The stainless steel found its way into the creation of 11 trainsets, each consisting of 66 coaches, for the priority section of this ambitious project.

Stainless steel has proven to be an exceptional choice for this high-speed transportation endeavor. Not only does it provide unparalleled safety for passengers, but it also enables the development of lightweight and energy-efficient trainsets. Its high strength-to-weight ratio ensures that the trainsets are robust and reliable, while its status as a ‘green metal’ contributes to a low life cycle cost, making it a prime candidate for sustainable solutions in modern railway infrastructure.

Commenting on this significant achievement, Managing Director of Jindal Stainless, Abhyuday Jindal, proudly stated, “Another feather in our cap in the 25-year-old association with the government in railways. Proud to have supplied stainless steel in India’s first Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS).”

This historic endeavor marks another remarkable chapter in Jindal Stainless’s contributions to the railway industry. With its high-strength stainless steel grades and unwavering commitment to quality, the company has already secured approval from major metro coach manufacturers such as Alstom and BEML. In addition to the RRTS project, Jindal Stainless has made significant contributions to metro projects in various cities, including Delhi, Kolkata, Bangalore, Chennai, Sydney, and Queensland.

Jindal Stainless stands out globally as one of the few companies capable of supplying the special finishes required for metro and railway coaches, including the coveted 2J and No. 4 finishes.

As India embarks on this transformative journey in railway transportation, Jindal Stainless continues to shine as a beacon of innovation, quality, and progress. The company’s pivotal role in the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS project cements its reputation as a leader in providing materials for the infrastructure of the future.
