NHPC inks MoU for execution of hydropower projects

NHPC has inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Jammu and Kashmir State Power Development Corporation (JKSPDCL) for hydropower projects. The MoU has been inked for execution of Kirthai-11 (930 MW), Sawalkot (1,856 MW), Uri-I (Stage-II) (240MW), Dulhasti (Stage-II) (258 MW), hydropower projects. NHPC and JKSPDCL will also explore the possibility of developing the renewable energy potential of Jammu and Kashmir including (but not limited to) solar, wind and small hydro projects either by expanding the scope of the existing joint venture companies or by creating a new joint venture company.

The 930 MW Kirthai-11 project will be executed by Chenab Valley Power Projects (a joint venture company of NHPC, JKSPDCL and PTC India), on the same terms and conditions as have been agreed for Pakaldul, Kiru and Kwar HEPs. The Sawalkot (1,856 MW), Uri-I (Stage-II) (2 40MW), Dulhasti (Stage-II) (258 MW) hydropower projects will be executed by NHPC on BOOT basis for a period of 40 years. The projects will be handed over back to the Government of Jammu & Kashmir after 40 years of commercial operation with specified generation capacity and free from all encumbrances.
