Phase 1 of AMRL SEZ completed

AMRL SEZ, a multi-product special economic zone marketed by Attivo, has completed phase 1 of the proposed project spread across 250 acres. About 13 companies have begun operating from the SEZ and have exported close to $100 million. The second phase is expected to be launched in 2021. Built on smart city concept, AMRL SEZ will encompass a SEZ with an adjoining proposed DTA (domestic tariff area) and a free trade and warehousing zone. The project entails development of an integrated industrial zone over 2,518 acres in Nanguneri in the Tirunelveli district of Tami Nadu.

The SEZ will house a diverse set of industries – electronics, medical equipment, general engineering, auto ancillaries and components, solar and many more – and has the potential to generate employment in excess of 20,000, as per reports. Corporate groups including global manufacturers from sectors like renewable energy, defence, aerospace, electronics, and toys have initiated discussions to set up facilities in AMRL SEZ as a part of their plan to relocate their operations from China to India, the company added. A leading medical equipment manufacturer has already signed a memorandum of understanding to develop a medical equipment research and manufacturing unit over 117 acres.
