PM Modi inaugurates six projects in Uttarakhand under Namami Gange Mission

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated six mega development projects in Uttarakhand under the Namami Gange Mission. The projects include construction of 68 MLD sewage treatment plant (STP), upgradation of the existing 27 MLD STP at Jagjeetpur in Haridwar and construction of 18 MLD STP at Sarai in Haridwar. The inauguration of 68 MLD Jagjeetpur project also marks completion of the first sewerage project taken up on hybrid annuity model of public-private treatment (PPP). In Rishikesh, 26 MLD STP at Lakkadghat was also inaugurated. PM also inaugurated the Ganga Avalokan Museum, the first-of-its-kind, on River Ganga at Haridwar. The government moved forward with a four-pronged strategy to achieve its objective of Clean Ganga Mission. It first started by laying a network of Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) to prevent waste water from flowing into the Ganga. Then STPs were built by keeping in mind the demands for the next 10-15 years.

Under Namami Gange, projects worth more than Rs 30,000 crore are either in progress or have been completed. Due to these projects, the sewage treatment capacity of Uttarakhand has increased four times in the last six years. Efforts have been made to close more than 130 drains in Uttarakhand from flowing into River Ganga.
