SEW-EURODRIVE India has expanded its operational capabilities with the inauguration of a state-of-the-art Drive Technology Centre (DTC) in Chennai, reinforcing its commitment to serving industrial customers across southern and eastern regions of the country. Strategically located in one of South India’s rapidly developing industrial corridors, the new facility is envisioned as a long-term asset designed to support future generations of manufacturing and engineering excellence.
Developed over an area of 12.27 acres, the 21,350 sqm facility integrates assembly and service functions, offering the scale and adaptability required to address evolving application demands and sustained customer growth. The centre underscores the company’s approach of aligning global engineering expertise with strong local execution, enabling enhanced responsiveness, operational reliability, and comprehensive lifecycle support.
A key highlight of the facility is its 15,000 sq m assembly shop, which features high-productivity assembly cells designed on a single-piece flow principle and equipped for future digital integration. The DTC also houses SEW-EURODRIVE India’s first semi-automated painting booth, aimed at ensuring consistent surface finishing and improved throughput.
Sustainability considerations have been embedded into the facility’s design and construction. The centre adheres to green building standards, incorporating features such as natural daylight utilisation, solar power generation, and rainwater harvesting systems. Additionally, energy-efficient construction methods and advanced climate control technologies contribute to reducing shopfloor temperatures by up to 3°C, thereby supporting stable production conditions, maintaining quality consistency, and improving workplace comfort.
With the commissioning of the Chennai DTC, SEW-EURODRIVE India further consolidates its position as a long-term technology partner to the Indian industry, investing in infrastructure and capabilities that align with the country’s industrial growth trajectory.
