Two new bridges to be constructed in brahmaputra river

Two new bridges will be constructed over the Brahmaputra river in Assam connecting north and south banks of the river. This was informed by Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal after meeting with Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari. Sonowal asked for an early start of the construction work of the bridges, one connecting Sivasagar-Desangmukh-Tekeliphuta-Dhakuakhana and another connecting North Lakhimpur- Majuli and Jorhat under Special Accelerated Road Development Programme for northeastern states. Also, in the meeting, discussion was held on status of highways in Assam under the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) and National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL). Stress was given on linking north and south bank of Brahmaputra river keeping the epicentre in Majuli.
