Volvo Trucks India has introduced the Volvo FMX Edge, a new off-road dump truck developed to enhance productivity, safety and operational efficiency in India’s mining sector. The vehicle was unveiled at Volvo’s Hoskote facility in Bengaluru in the presence of mining industry customers and senior leadership from Volvo Trucks, VE Commercial Vehicles Ltd. and Volvo Construction Equipment.
Developed on the established Volvo FMX platform, the FMX Edge has been engineered specifically for the evolving requirements of Indian mining operations. The new truck has been designed after extensive field validation and customer engagement, addressing industry demands related to higher productivity, improved loading efficiency, operational safety, fuel efficiency and long-term lifecycle performance.
The launch event marked another milestone for Volvo Trucks India, which has built a strong presence in the mining segment over the past several years. More than 3,000 Volvo FMX500 8×4 trucks are currently operating across mining sites in the country, forming the foundation for the development of the new FMX Edge platform.
The Volvo FMX Edge comes equipped with a 31.2 cu.m SAE heap body capacity and a 2.8-metre-wide body configuration aimed at improving compatibility with larger excavators and enabling faster cycle times in overburden transportation. The truck also incorporates advanced safety technologies, high power and torque performance, improved vehicle stability and efficiency-oriented engineering intended to deliver reliable performance in demanding mining conditions.

Following the unveiling, customers participated in an interactive demonstration session at the Volvo CE Customer Centre Ground, where the FMX Edge was showcased in an application-oriented mining environment. The event also highlighted collaboration across the Volvo ecosystem, with Volvo Trucks and Volvo Construction Equipment jointly presenting integrated productivity-driven solutions for the mining industry.
With the launch of the FMX Edge, Volvo Trucks India has further strengthened its focus on delivering advanced mining transport solutions tailored to the operational realities of India’s mining sector.
