Gopalan Metals enters building wires market

Gopalan Metals (India) Pvt Ltd has entered the building wires segment with the launch of Gopalan Wires and Cables, expanding its portfolio beyond copper manufacturing into electrical wiring solutions. Backed by the four-decade legacy of Gopalan Group, the new brand will cater to residential, commercial and industrial applications.

The initial product range comprises FR (Flame Retardant) and FRLS-H (Flame Retardant Low Smoke and Halogen) PVC house wires, developed for applications where electrical safety, durability and reliable performance are key requirements. The wires use electrolytic copper conductors, leveraging the company’s existing expertise in copper processing.

Manufacturing for the new range is being undertaken at Gopalan Metals’ facility in Hoskote, Karnataka. The plant has a stated production capacity of approximately 6,000 km of building wires per month, providing the company with a platform to scale its presence in the electrical products market.

Gopalan Metals is targeting a broad customer base comprising electrical dealers and distributors, contractors, builders, infrastructure companies, original equipment manufacturers and end users. The company plans to address both retail and institutional demand through its product portfolio.

The entry comes amid rising requirements for electrical products driven by urbanisation, housing development, commercial construction, industrial expansion and infrastructure investments. Increasing emphasis on electrical safety and performance is also creating opportunities for organised manufacturers offering standards-compliant wiring products.

As part of its market entry, Gopalan Metals has obtained a Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) licence with the ISI Mark for its building-wires business. The certification strengthens the company’s positioning in the organised electrical products segment and supports its focus on compliance with established quality and safety requirements.

The new venture forms part of Gopalan Metals’ wider strategy to build a diversified manufacturing business around electrical and copper-based products. By combining its copper manufacturing capabilities with a dedicated building-wires portfolio, the company aims to tap opportunities emerging across India’s construction, electrical and industrial sectors.
