FedEx is set to invest around $150 million in a new fully automated integrated air cargo hub at GMR Cargo City, Indira Gandhi International Airport, Delhi, as part of its strategy to expand cargo capacity and strengthen connectivity across North and East India.
Spread across approximately 230,000 sq ft, the proposed facility will consolidate FedEx’s international gateway and pickup-and-delivery operations within a single location. The integration is expected to streamline cargo movement, reduce operational handoffs and improve processing efficiency.
Once operational, the hub is designed to increase FedEx’s package-handling capacity from about 600 to 5,000 packages per hour, with provisions to accommodate further expansion as shipment volumes increase. The facility will incorporate an advanced automated sorting system, next-generation X-ray equipment, enhanced security infrastructure and intelligent package-handling technologies.
The investment comes amid rising demand for express logistics, e-commerce fulfilment and time-sensitive international cargo movement in India. By expanding its infrastructure in Delhi, FedEx aims to provide businesses in the northern and eastern regions with improved access to its global transportation network.
The facility will be developed within GMR Cargo City, a 50-acre integrated cargo and logistics development at Delhi Airport. The project has an overall development potential of around 1.5–2 mn sq ft, with the first phase planned across nearly 30 acres and comprising approximately 1 million sq ft. Detailed design work has been completed, enabling activities are underway and construction is expected to commence shortly.
The Delhi project adds to FedEx’s growing investment in India’s air cargo infrastructure. In February 2026, the company began work on its first dedicated integrated cargo terminal in India at Navi Mumbai International Airport. The approximately 300,000 sq ft automated facility, backed by an investment of more than Rs 25 billion, is intended to strengthen cargo links between India and key markets across Southeast Asia, West Asia, Europe and the US.
Together, the Delhi and Navi Mumbai facilities are expected to give FedEx greater capacity and geographic reach across India’s major trade corridors. While the Delhi hub will strengthen the company’s network serving North and East India, the Navi Mumbai facility will support cargo flows through India’s western gateway.
The planned Delhi investment also underlines the increasing role of integrated airport cargo ecosystems in India’s logistics infrastructure. By bringing cargo handling, automated sorting, security, international processing and distribution functions closer together, such facilities can enable faster movement of shipments while improving network resilience.
With India’s trade and e-commerce activity continuing to expand, FedEx’s investment represents a significant addition to the country’s express air cargo infrastructure and positions Delhi as an increasingly important gateway for international shipments.
