Tata Motors has initiated deliveries of its Prima E.55S electric prime movers to BillionE Mobility, marking a significant step forward in the adoption of zero-emission heavy-duty transport in India. The development is further reinforced by a fresh order for 250 additional units, indicating rising industry confidence in electric long-haul logistics.
The deployment will take place in phases across key freight corridors spanning Gujarat, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Delhi NCR and Haryana. The electric fleet is expected to support the movement of core industrial commodities such as steel and cement, aligning with the sector’s gradual transition toward cleaner mobility solutions.
The initial batch of vehicles was handed over in the presence of Girish Wagh, Kartikey Hariyani and Rajesh Kaul, alongside senior leadership teams from both organisations.
Receiving the e-trucks, Kartikey Hariyani, Founder of BillionE & ChargeZone and Sanjeev Kulkarni, CEO, BillionE Mobility, said,
“Our focus at Billion Electric Mobility is on building electric commercial vehicle solutions that can be deployed reliably, and at scale across real freight operations for inter-city routes. We are entering into a strategic partnership with Tata Motors as we aim to accelerate our commitment for systematic large-scale acquisition and month on month planned pipeline for deployment 6 to 18 months targeting 1,500 units of heavy-duty logistics in India. The Tata Prima E.55S delivers the performance, reliability and operational efficiency required for intensive logistics solutions across various applications. We are pleased to induct Prima E.55S 450kWh, India’s largest in-class battery capacity of 450 kWh to enhance our long-haul logistics capabilities.”
Sharing his perspective, Rajesh Kaul, Vice President and Business Head – Trucks, Tata Motors Ltd, said,
“Electric trucking scales when vehicles are built for real operating conditions—duty cycles, uptime, energy efficiency and total cost of ownership. Developed with this application-led approach, the Prima E.55S brings together India’s first high-performance e-axle, an advanced battery management system and dual charging ports, supported by a segment-leading 450 kWh battery pack designed for extended range and demanding duty cycles. These technologies translate into strong performance, higher uptime and lower operating costs, enabling customers to achieve faster payback. Our close collaboration with BillionE Mobility has ensured alignment across the vehicle and the supporting ecosystem, enabling dependable electric operations across key freight corridors.”
Part of the company’s growing Trucks.EV portfolio, the Prima E.55S is built on Tata Motors’ i-MoEV architecture and integrates a full-electric drivetrain with an advanced e-axle and regenerative braking system. Equipped with a 450 kWh battery pack, the truck offers a range of up to 350 km on a single charge, positioning it for long-haul applications.
The vehicle also incorporates a 3-speed Auto Shift transmission, dual-gun fast charging capability, and a comprehensive safety suite including a Driver Monitoring System, Lane Departure Warning, Tyre Pressure Monitoring System, Cruise Control and Electronic Braking System, with optional ADAS features. The premium Prima cabin is designed to enhance driver comfort and operational efficiency, reinforcing its suitability for demanding freight operations.
The partnership signals a broader shift toward scalable electric logistics, where vehicle performance, charging infrastructure and operational economics are increasingly converging to drive adoption in the heavy commercial vehicle segment.
