Karnataka rolls out major rural road upgrade in Belagavi under Pragatipath Scheme

The Belagavi Zilla Panchayat is preparing to launch an extensive rural road infrastructure programme covering 481.14 km across the district under the Karnataka Government’s Pragatipath initiative. The project, estimated at Rs 350 crore, will span all 18 Assembly constituencies in Belagavi, aiming to strengthen rural connectivity and improve transportation infrastructure in remote areas.

The initiative forms part of a larger statewide programme focused on upgrading 7,110 km of rural roads across Karnataka with an overall investment of Rs 5,190 crore. The programme is being implemented with financial support from the Asian Development Bank (ADB), marking one of the state’s most significant rural road development efforts in recent years.

The scheme has been designed to enhance the quality and durability of village roads while creating a more organised and efficient rural road network. Funding for the project will follow a 70:30 model, with the majority coming through external loan assistance and the remaining contribution from the State Government.

Implementation and long-term maintenance responsibilities have been entrusted to the Karnataka Rural Road Development Corporation, which will oversee the execution of the works and maintain the roads for a five-year period after completion. Work on the Belagavi package is expected to commence shortly.
