GHIAL commissions new cargo terminal to expand Hyderabad’s logistics capacity

GMR Hyderabad International Airport Ltd (GHIAL) has operationalised Cargo Terminal 2 at Hyderabad International Airport, further strengthening the airport’s role as a major air cargo and logistics gateway in the country.

Developed to cater to the increasing volume of domestic and international freight movement, the new terminal brings enhanced cargo handling infrastructure for airlines, freight forwarders, logistics service providers and regulatory authorities. The facility spans 16,864 sq m and has been designed with a focus on efficiency, scalability and faster cargo processing.

The terminal begins operations with an annual handling capacity of nearly 50,000 ton, with provisions for future expansion up to 100,000 ton. It incorporates separate inbound and outbound cargo sections, extensive import and export processing areas, advanced multi-level storage systems and streamlined build-up and breakdown zones to facilitate simultaneous shipment handling.

A major feature of the facility is its dedicated temperature-controlled pharmaceutical handling zone equipped with modern cold-chain and monitoring systems. The specialised infrastructure is expected to support the safe movement of pharmaceutical products and other temperature-sensitive cargo, further enhancing Hyderabad’s position as a key pharma export hub.

The commissioning of Cargo Terminal 2 is expected to improve logistics efficiency, strengthen cargo operations and support trade growth while aligning with GHIAL’s broader objective of building an advanced and globally competitive cargo infrastructure ecosystem.
