Maharashtra pushes ahead with integrated maritime complex in Palghar

Maharashtra is accelerating efforts to strengthen its maritime infrastructure with plans for a large integrated maritime complex in Palghar district, alongside expansion initiatives linked to Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders (MDL), as the state aims to emerge as a major global hub for shipbuilding and marine services.

The proposed United Sadhav Integrated Maritime Complex is planned at Nandgaon in the Wadwan region and is expected to involve an investment of nearly Rs 4,150 crore. Spread across around 600 acres near the upcoming Vadhan deep-water port, the project is envisioned as a comprehensive maritime ecosystem catering to shipbuilding, ship repair and offshore marine operations.

The development plan includes modern dry dock infrastructure, marine engineering facilities, offshore support services and an eco-friendly ship recycling unit designed to align with sustainable industrial practices. The project is expected to play a key role in enhancing coastal industrial activity while supporting employment generation and maritime trade growth in the region.

State authorities believe the initiative will contribute significantly to strengthening Maharashtra’s maritime economy and improving its competitiveness in the international shipping and shipbuilding sector.

The first phase of construction is expected to begin within the next two years. Project developers have sought long-term land allocation through a renewable 30-year lease model along with mega project status and government-backed infrastructure support. Requests have also been made for capital incentives, faster clearances and skill development assistance to facilitate smooth implementation and create a sustainable maritime industrial ecosystem.

The proposed complex is expected to complement ongoing port-led development initiatives in the state and support the broader vision of transforming Maharashtra into a strategic maritime and logistics gateway.
