Gujarat approves Rs 1,147 crore green road development programme

The Gujarat Government has sanctioned Rs 1,147 crore for the construction and upgradation of 20 climate-resilient roads using sustainable and green construction technologies across the state.

The initiative aims to enhance road durability while reducing environmental impact through the reuse of existing pavement materials, soil and other recyclable construction inputs. The programme forms part of the state’s broader push towards sustainable infrastructure development.

The approved works include road widening, resurfacing, four-laning, RCC gutter installations, shoulder strengthening, rumble strips and white-topping solutions. Select stretches will also incorporate advanced glass grid technology to improve pavement performance and longevity.

Projects under the programme are spread across several districts including Surat, Bharuch, Jamnagar, Vadodara, Morbi, Bhavnagar, Patan and Kutch. In addition, a separate Rs 50 crore green road reconstruction project has been cleared for the Jambusar-Tankali-Deola corridor in Bharuch district, a strategically important route connecting industrial and coastal regions.
