Connectivity to Cochin International Airport (CIAL) is set to improve with plans for a dedicated two-kilometre link road that will provide direct access to the upcoming Kochi Outer Ring Road. The new corridor is expected to ease traffic congestion around the airport while significantly reducing travel time for passengers and commercial vehicles.
The proposed route will connect the airport’s northeastern terminal and runway zone to the Outer Ring Road near Mattoor, allowing airport-bound traffic to bypass busy local roads. The project is being taken forward jointly by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and CIAL, with the airport committing a portion of the required land and the remaining parcels to be acquired by the State Government.
To support project planning, the National Transportation Planning and Research Centre (NATPAC) has begun a feasibility assessment covering engineering requirements, alignment and traffic integration. Meanwhile, the land acquisition process is progressing, with construction expected to move forward after the necessary government notification is issued.
Once completed, the connector road is expected to enhance airport accessibility, improve traffic flow and strengthen Kerala’s growing transport infrastructure by integrating one of the state’s busiest aviation hubs with the regional highway network.
