Narendra Modi has inaugurated the 109-km Ahmedabad–Dholera Greenfield Expressway (NE-08), marking a significant step in strengthening high-speed connectivity within Gujarat. The newly launched four-lane, access-controlled corridor is set to streamline travel between Ahmedabad and the emerging industrial hub of Dholera, reinforcing the region’s role in India’s infrastructure-led growth strategy.
Developed at an estimated cost of Rs 5,100 crore, the expressway has been engineered to accommodate both present and future traffic volumes, with provisions for expansion up to eight lanes. The route begins at Sarkhej, traverses key nodes such as Bavla, and connects seamlessly to Adhelai near the Dholera Special Investment Region (DSIR). This alignment is expected to significantly reduce travel time while easing congestion on existing arterial roads.
The corridor holds strategic importance as it enhances connectivity to the Dholera Special Investment Region and the upcoming Dholera International Airport. It is also aligned with the larger framework of the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor, positioning it as a critical link for industrial logistics and freight movement. Improved access to nearby economic zones and heritage sites such as Lothal further strengthens its multi-sectoral impact, spanning trade, tourism, and regional development.
Beyond easing passenger travel, the expressway is expected to improve supply chain efficiency by enabling faster and more predictable cargo movement. Reduced vehicular congestion and optimized traffic flow are also likely to contribute to lower emissions, supporting sustainable infrastructure goals.
Following the expressway inauguration, a series of development projects worth over Rs 20,000 crore have been launched across the state, covering sectors such as power, railways, healthcare, and urban and rural infrastructure. This integrated approach reflects a broader vision of synchronized growth, where physical infrastructure is complemented by advancements in public services and industrial capacity.
Among these initiatives, a semiconductor manufacturing facility by Kaynes Technology in Sanand stands out as a key step toward strengthening India’s electronics ecosystem. The project aligns with national efforts to boost domestic manufacturing capabilities and reduce reliance on imports, while also generating skilled employment opportunities.
The Ahmedabad–Dholera Expressway emerges as the centerpiece of this development push, underlining the role of infrastructure as a catalyst for industrial expansion. By connecting established urban centers with upcoming economic zones, the project is expected to drive long-term investment, enhance regional integration, and reinforce Gujarat’s position as a leading industrial powerhouse in the country.
