MNRE extends deadlines for under construction projects

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has extended the deadlines for projects under construction, and will now issue a blanket extension of five months following disruption due to COVID-19 lockdowns. The blanket extension, if invoked by renewable energy developers, will be given without case-to-case examination and no documents/evidence will be asked for such extension. Earlier in July 2020, according to sources had set 25 March 2020 to 31 March 2020 as the official dates for the lockdown. It will grant project deadline extensions to cover 68-day period, along with an additional 30 days to help developers overcome any difficulties in restarting their operations. However, various developers told the government they required more leeway to get projects back on track as some states had extended lockdowns for varying periods. They also cited challenges in labour availability.
