A new port is coming up at Ramayyapatnam in Prakasam district of Andhra Pradesh. The foundation stone will be laid later this month, according to Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu. Setting up of a major port at Dugarajapatnam in Nellore district was one of the provisions of the AP Reorganisation Act, 2014, “but the Centre has reneged on the promise.” Dugarajapatnam was not found suitable and the State government had sent an alternative proposal at Ramayyapatnam but there was no response from the Centre.  According to the sources, they are going ahead with it and 62 per cent of the work has already been completed.  Water will be released by gravitational flow by May 2019, and they will make every effort to complete the project by the end of 2019.
