PM Modi inaugurates new terminal building of Chennai airport

PM Narendra Modi inaugurated the new integrated terminal building of the Chennai Airport. Spread across an area of 1,36,295 sqm, the construction of the new terminal, T-2 (Phase-1) has been carried out at a cost of Rs 1,260 crore. The new building will increase the passenger serving capacity of the airport from the current 23 Million Passengers Per Annum (MPPA) to 35 MPPA.  The new terminal is based on the GRIHA standards. GRIHA stands for Green Rating for Integrated Habitat Assessment, which has been developed to evaluate the environmental performance of buildings and habitats. There will be 54 immigration counters at the arrival and departure counters to ease the transit procedures. Self-baggage drop kiosks will also be available so that check-in can be faster and hassle less. The security screening will be faster with 11 Automatic Tray Retrieval Systems (ATRS) in place for screening carry-on baggage so that passengers can have smooth clearance.
