PM Modi inaugurates the first stage of India’s longest expressway

BMC to construct a 5.6-km-long elevated road that will connect the Eastern Freeway

PM Modi has inaugurated the first stage of its longest expressway i.e the Mumbai-Delhi expressway, a route linking New Delhi and Mumbai, linking the capital with the tourist city of Jaipur in Rajasthan. This  $13 billion project will eventually cut the road travel time between the country’s two biggest cities in half, to 12 hours.  New Delhi has expedited many key projects, and Modi’s Government this month announced an unprecedented 33 percent increase in infrastructure spending.

At least a dozen major railways, highways, expressways and port projects are expected to be opened in the next few months as it makes a concerted infrastructure push to catch up with geopolitical rival China. As per reports, PM said it is a sign of developing India and that such investments in railways, highways, subway lines and airports are a key to pushing the country’s growth rate, attracting more investments and employment opportunities.
