Ridership of suburban rail will surpass Bangalore Metro by 2025

Bangalore Metro

Nearly 10 lakh people a day are expected to use the suburban rail services in Bangalore when the 161-km project becomes a reality in 2025. The network – crisscrossing the city in six different directions, is designed to accommodate two dedicated tracks on either side of existing railway lines. The project is estimated to cost Rs 19,500 crore. The project includes an elevated corridor of 60 km at three stretches between Kengeri and Bengaluru City, Heelalige (Electronic City) and Hebbal, and Yelahanka and Kempegowda International Airport (KIA). The remaining 101-km suburban rail corridor will be at ground level as per reports. According to the sources, Bangalore will have 81 suburban railway stations – 30 elevated and 51 at ground level, and each two kilometres apart.
