Knauf India has expanded its portfolio of drywall and ceiling solutions with the launch of Knauf Drystar, a fibre-reinforced gypsum board system designed to deliver superior performance in wet and high-humidity environments. Developed for modern dry construction, the new solution addresses growing demand for moisture-resistant, mould-resistant and fire-safe building materials across residential, commercial and institutional projects.
Engineered with a specially formulated gypsum core and a moisture-resistant glass-fleece surface, Knauf Drystar offers enhanced protection against water absorption and mould formation. The board records water absorption of less than 3 per cent and complies with the EN 15283-1 GM-FH1IR classification, indicating high fire performance, improved surface hardness, reduced water absorption and enhanced mechanical strength. It also carries an A2-s1,d0 fire classification, making it a non-combustible material suitable for projects with stringent fire safety requirements.
Speaking about the launch, Sumit Bidani, CEO, Knauf India, said, “Modern construction demands materials not only delivering durability and performance but also addressing evolving concerns such as hygiene, fire safety, moisture management, sustainability and safety. With Knauf Drystar’s launch, we are introducing an advanced drywall solution that is engineered specifically for wet-area and high-humidity applications. Drystar amalgamates superior mould and moisture resistance with the flexibility, speed and efficiency of modern dry construction systems, enabling developers, architects and contractors to build with greater confidence.”
Knauf Drystar is intended for a wide range of applications, including washrooms, spas, hotel bathrooms, hospitals, diagnostic centres, healthcare facilities, shopping centres, airports, schools and other public infrastructure. The board is also suitable for suspended ceilings in semi-exterior spaces such as covered walkways, balconies and entrance canopies, where exposure to humidity and occasional water splashes is common.
Among its key features are enhanced resistance to mould and termites, high moisture resistance, low water absorption, non-combustible properties, ease of installation comparable to conventional gypsum boards, flexibility for curved applications, and compatibility with waterproofing membranes, ceramic tiles and sealants.
With the introduction of Drystar, Knauf India aims to strengthen its offering of advanced building solutions while supporting the development of durable, hygienic and future-ready spaces across the hospitality, healthcare, residential and commercial sectors.
