Jindal Steel has successfully completed a major capacity expansion at its Angul Integrated Steel Complex in Odisha, marking a significant step in strengthening its production capabilities. The commissioning of the third Basic Oxygen Furnace (BOF-3), with a capacity of 3 million ton per annum (MTPA), has elevated the plant’s crude steel capacity to 12 MTPA, placing it among the largest single-location integrated steel facilities in India.
This development concludes the company’s expansion programme at Angul, which involved scaling up from 6 MTPA to 12 MTPA. The project includes the full operationalisation of BOF-2 and BOF-3, supported by a comprehensive network of upstream and downstream infrastructure. Key additions include coke oven units, a Cold Rolling Mill (CRM) complex, and other essential facilities designed to ensure seamless production flow and efficient capacity ramp-up.
With the Angul expansion now fully operational, Jindal Steel’s total crude steel capacity has increased to 15.6 MTPA, factoring in 3.6 MTPA from its Raigarh plant. The enhanced scale is expected to enable higher output volumes and improved capacity utilisation, contributing to stronger revenue generation.
The integrated nature of the expansion is also anticipated to deliver operational efficiencies, allowing the company to optimise costs and improve margins. By leveraging economies of scale and advanced infrastructure, Jindal Steel aims to strengthen its competitive positioning while contributing to India’s growing steel demand.
The capacity augmentation aligns with the broader national focus on infrastructure development and industrial self-reliance, reinforcing the role of domestic steel manufacturers in supporting the country’s long-term growth and the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat.
